Perfecting My Mornings

Perfecting My Mornings

Hi There! Long time no chat.

Although there’s not much going on for me in the blogging realm, now that I have the time and some newfound motivation I thought I’d write a bit. Life has been overtaken by work and responsibilities as I hit my 30’s, but I’m trying to rebuild and recharge, focusing on being the best version of myself so that I can face these responsibilities head on.

One of my main focuses has been trying to perfect my ideal morning routine. For the longest time I was the person who woke up in the morning with just enough time (down to the exact minute) to get ready for work. Over time I realized that prioritizing those extra few minutes of mediocre sleep set me up for a hectic day ahead, so I slowly started to make a change.

Although I still constantly struggle with the consistency of my morning routine, I’ve realized that if I stick to at least a few habits a day, I can still feel like I’ve had a productive morning and have started waking up at least an hour earlier than I used to. My daily goal is to wake up when the sun is first starting to rise because few things make me happier than watching the sunrise, but let’s be honest, I also really love and value my sleep, so that’s a work in progress.

When I first wake up, I’ve started oil pulling with coconut oil. If you haven’t heard of it, you basically swish coconut oil in your mouth for about 10 minutes every morning before you brush your teeth. It’s supposedly beneficial for the health of your teeth and gums. I haven’t noticed any significant changes yet, but it definitely makes me feel better knowing I’ve tried to do something beneficial for myself first thing in the morning. After 10 minutes I dispose of the coconut oil (not in the sink because it’ll clog the drains), brush my teeth, and put on some sunscreen (please share your favorite sunscreens!) and put on some comfy, warm clothes to go for a walk.

My walks are about two and a half to three miles depending on the weather and how I’m feeling that day. The goal for my walks is to at least close the exercise ring on my Apple watch and get some fresh air before I get the day started. Although I’m not the most excited about this part of my morning, I definitely feel a lot better after I’ve gone for a walk and had some time to listen to a motivational or self help podcast (recommendations are welcome!)

Once the walk is done it’s time to get ready for the rest of the day. I hop in the shower, get my skincare done and get myself to look presentable before I take my greens powder (again, don’t know how much it helps but it makes me feel better about myself), drink some spearmint tea and then prep my breakfast and coffee for the day.

Although there may be a lot to improve on, I’m pretty happy with the direction my mornings are going and am looking forward to implementing more changes to my day! If you’re looking to make some improvements, sit down and think about the small tasks you can add to help you in your routine, this may look different for everyone. The key is to start out with simpler tasks that are easy to add into your routine and working your way up to the more time consuming tasks that are difficult to stick to, these will get easier over time! Hopefully this motivates you to make some necessary changes in your morning to help your day go by smoother and more productive overall!
