Farmers Protest Part 2

No negativity or vulgarity will be tolerated. This is just part one of a multiple post series regarding various aspects of this topic.

In my last post I summarized the Farming Bills which have caused the largest protest in world history.

These protests are finally starting to make headlines and create the awareness this cause needs. The past few months have, as we can imagine, been physically and emotionally exhausting for these farmers, specially the elderly who saw no other choice but to join the protest to save their livelihoods.

The protesters have lacked basic necessities such as drinking water and essential medications, only in hopes that Prime Minister Modi and the rest of the Indian government will address their concerns. Luckily thanks to individuals and charities such as Khalsa Aid and Sahaita the protesters have been able to get these essential items without leaving the protest sites.

The real twist here is not that charities have come in to assist in these trying times, but the fact that rather than addressing the concerns of the protesters the government is labeling these charities and protesters as terrorists. Not only are their rights being taken away career wise, but they are being punished for receiving basic necessities. The government and supporters of the laws have attempted to discredit the movement by criticizing the farmers for eating pizza, which has been made and distributed as Seva (selfless service) by those who are willing an able to assist and contribute. What type of government turns a blind eye on their own citizens living in the streets for so long, but objects to them eating pizza?

One of the main charities which has been assisting the farmers by providing items such as soap, drinking water, leg massagers for the elderly who’s health has greatly deteriorated due to the harsh weather in Delhi and much much more is Khalsa Aid. Khalsa Aid, spearheaded by Humanitarian Ravi Singh Khalsa, has been providing aid to those in need all over the world during any natural disaster or war, risking their lives to help others. One of the biggest surprises as events unfolded in these protests was that this charitable organization was met with scrutiny and threats for helping their own community. In a statement given by Khalsa Aid, many including their organization were summoned to appear before the NIA and were being investigated as being “anti national” or supporting terrorism.

Why is the government trying to silence people if they haven’t done anything wrong? In addition many journalists and activists have been abducted (not arrested) for supporting the farmers and reporting the truth of what is happening at the Delhi border. Journalist Mandeep Punia was abducted by police and had his video footage of the protests confiscated and destroyed. he was eventually released from jail after days of interrogation. Activist Nodeep Kaur was also abducted by police and there is evidence of her being beaten by male police officers and sexually abused while in custody. The public is still making attempts to get her released. Ranjeet Singh was beaten and abducted for protecting a tent of elderly women from a violent mob. There are hundreds more who have been abducted and who are waiting for justice to be served.

Other attempts at silencing these protests have also been made such as blocking the internet at protest sites, blocking the protesters off from their food and water supply, and certain media outlets reporting false information to discredit the movement, also known as Godi media (similar to the workings of Fox News with the previous US President).

Bollywood celebrities have also copied and pasted versions of support for the government and the laws, despite having used farming lands to their benefit when filming movies for decades. Many celebrities known for their roles as Punjabis or farmers have appropriated farming culture for so long, but are still under the thumb of the government. I actually find it quite funny that while they benefited from our community for so long they refuse to stand up for basic human rights of this same community. Celebrities such as Akshay Kumar, Hema Malini, Sunny and Bobby Deol, Dharmendra and many others have greatly disappointed the community who truly supported them and their work. I can’t speak on this topic without mentioning the psycho herself, Miss Kangana Ranaut who openly accuses farmers and their supporters of being terrorists, using the term “Khalistani” to define anyone who’s opinions she does not agree with, including international celebrities such as Rihanna, Amanda Cerny, Greta Thunberg and Meena Harris. Might I add that Kangana has openly called for the “eradication” of a supposed cancer which are these innocent farmers who are suffering and fighting for their families futures while she sits her privileged butt in her heated and comfortable home eating food that was grown by those same farmers? Meanwhile, BJP and RSS (Hindu Nationalist/ Modi) supporters publicly and violently burn photos of Rihanna, Greta and Meena who openly advocate for equal human rights and fair treatment of these peaceful protesters.

The government is constantly giving farming leaders the runaround during their meetings while labeling farmers as terrorists, especially after the events that unfolded at the Lal Qila or Red Fort on Republic Day due to farmers hoisting a Nishan Sahib next to the Indian Flag as has been done in history a handful of times before. Regardless of anyones opinion, the bigger picture here is that those who are ruling the nation are destroying the nation and THEY are actual terrorists.
